Over the weekend, Mayor Robert E. Clark and Councilwoman Deb Staelgraeve had the honor of welcoming another new business into Downtown Monroe, the The Vintage Market Mercantile II. This is one of many recently opened small businesses that have popped up around the city.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses comprise more than 98 percent of Michigan businesses and employ half of Michigan workers. For every $100 spent at a local business, roughly $68 stays in the local economy, allowing business and job growth.
In the spirit of Small Business Week, we want to highlight two partner organizations that cultivate and support our Downtown in the City - the DDA and the DMBN.
The Downtown Monroe Michigan Business Network (DMBN) is a group of local businesses that joined together to bring a variety of activities and events into the community - with many highly anticipated annual events such as the Ducky Dash, Michigan Craft Beer Festival, Wine Crawl, Downtown Trick of Treat and many more.
The Downtown Monroe, MI Development Authority (DDA) promotes cultural and economic growth in the Downtown area by providing direction and resources to businesses, property owners and residents in the downtown district. It works for the advancement of downtown through promotion of its businesses and events; the facilitation of redevelopment opportunities.
