MONROE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT: Monroe County Health Department Latest Update on COVID-19 Response

Monroe County Health Department issued the following announcement on March 30.

 Update on (COVID-19 Cases) in Monroe County:

· The number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Monroe County is currently forty-nine (49).

· The number of female cases is thirty-one (31); the number of male cases is eighteen (18).

 · The number of patients who have recovered (defined as 72-hour fever free and at least one week since symptom onset) is seven (7).

· The number of patients who are stable and continue to be monitored at home is twenty-eight (28).

 · The number of patients who are hospitalized is fourteen (14). Other Testing Updates:

 · In the State of Michigan, there are 7,615 positive cases of COVID-19. Data on the number of positive cases by County in the State of Michigan can be found at: www.michigan.gov/coronavirus Who should get tested, prioritized: Priority 1: Ensure optimal care options for all hospitalized patients, lessen the risk of nosocomial infections, and maintain the integrity of the healthcare system

· Hospitalized patients

 · Symptomatic healthcare workers Priority 2: Ensure that those who are at highest risk of complication of infection are rapidly identified and appropriately triaged

· Patients in long-term care facilities with symptoms

 · Patients 65 years of age and older with symptoms

 · Patients with underlying conditions with symptoms

 · First responders with symptoms Priority 3: As resources allow, test individuals in the surrounding community of rapidly increasing hospital cases to decrease community spread, and ensure health of essential workers

· Critical infrastructure workers with symptoms

· Individuals who do not meet any of the above categories with symptoms

· Health care workers and first responders

 · Individuals with mild symptoms in communities experiencing high COVID-19 hospitalizations Non-Priority

· Individuals without symptoms

What should I do if I have symptoms of respiratory illness:

· Step 1: Call your health care provider. Based on your signs and symptoms, your provider may request testing

· Step 2: If you are tested for COVID-19, you will be asked to isolate at home or health care facility until your lab result is received.

 · Step 3: Your lab result is sent to the health care provider.

They will contact you with the result and further direction.

Practice Proper Personal Hygiene:

· Wash your hands often with soap and water. If not available, use hand sanitizer.

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

 · Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing.

· Avoid contact with people who are sick.

· Stay at home if you are sick, and contact your health care provider.
