LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joseph Bellino has expressed his approval of a state grant allocated to aid the city of Adrian in replacing lead pipes within its community. Speaking about the grant, Sen. Bellino stated, “This funding will help ensure the people of Adrian have access to clean and safe drinking water for decades to come.” He further added, “I have long supported this type of investment as the sort of long-term infrastructure improvements we should be making. This is also another example of the efforts made by the Legislature last term to help communities throughout our state keep their water safe.”

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has granted Adrian $510,000 through the Community Technical, Managerial, and Financial Support for Lead Line Replacement (TMF LSLR) program. This funding is designated to assist Adrian in its lead service line replacement efforts, which includes field verification for approximately 800 service lines at properties where lead is suspected but not confirmed or where service line material is unknown but likely contains lead.

The grant is part of the appropriations made under Public Act 166 of 2022, where $48 million was allocated for a grant program aimed at providing community technical, managerial, and financial support for lead line replacement. The primary objective of this grant program is to facilitate the physical verification of lead service lines for the submission of the Complete Distribution System Materials Inventory required under the 2018 Lead and Copper Rule changes. Additionally, it aims to aid communities in utilizing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Drinking Water State Revolving Fund dollars for lead line replacement.
