Dundee Fire and Police units were called

Dundee Fire and Police units were called to the 200 block of Ypsilanti St. at 12:35pm today for a fire on the front porch.

Stevens Refuse workers Austin Crowley and Olando Jackson spotted the smoldering porch boards and knocked on the door to alert the residents, who then called 911.  The actions of the Stevens workers likely saved the situation from becoming much worse.

Dundee Police Sgt Frank Chirillo and Reserve Officer Joe Schumaker were first on scene and used fire extinguishers to contain the smoldering burn until firefighters arrived.  The exact cause is unknown at this time, but may have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
