Dundee Village issued the following announcement on Dec 30.
The gift of giving and paying it forward….
On Dec 28th a Dundee Police Officer became aware of a homeless family living in their vehicle within the village. It was learned that the woman was a cancer patient and she and her adult son (and dog) had lost their home in western Michigan this fall. While checking on them this officer learned that they ended up in Dundee because she had cancer treatments several times a week in Ann Arbor and they chose Dundee because it’s “close, safe, quiet and clean.” It was also learned they had spent Christmas in their vehicle and had been showering at a nearby truck stop.
The officer began making calls to local leaders, churches, clergy, individuals and businesses and all found ways to assist this family. Kroger food and fuel cards, dog food, additional clothing and a discounted room at a local hotel thru Jan 1st.
The amazing efforts of the officer, local leaders, churches and clergy, and businesses have helped this family and given them an opportunity but more may be needed.
If you would like to donate to this family you can place your donation in an envelope marked “Homeless Cancer Donation” and leave it in the drop box at the front entrance to the Village office. Office staff will collect the donations and make sure they get to the family.
In the spirit of giving and paying it forward…we thank all who have answered the call to help and thank all of you who decide to donate
