Monroe Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec 15.
At the end of the month of December, the City of Monroe Police Department is going to have 4 members of the department retiring. We continue in looking back and saying Happy Retirement by introducing Capt. Kenneth Peterson (Petey).
Capt. Peterson began his Law Enforcement career with the City of Detroit on 12/2/1996. He had previously attended Eastern Michigan University (Go Eagles!) where he obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. After serving the citizens of Detroit for approximately 2 years, Capt. Peterson was hired by the City of Monroe Police Department on 7/12/1998.
Throughout his career with the City of Monroe Police Department, Capt. Peterson has been involved in the training of many new officers as he is certified as a Field Training Officer. Capt. Peterson has a wealth of information when it comes to police work and his knowledge has been distributed through the ranks of many of the current officers within the department today.
Capt. Peterson also spent some of his career in OMNI (The Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigations), is trained as a bicycle officer, attended IRE school in 2010 and is also certified as an MEI (Medical Examiner Investigations).
In June of 2015, Capt. Peterson was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and worked in that capacity as a Road Patrol Sergeant. Soon there after, Capt. Peterson achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 2016. In 2018, Capt. Peterson attended and graduated from Eastern Michigan University's Staff and Command class.
In May of 2019, Capt. Peterson took on the responsibility of being a Detective Bureau Lieutenant. Under his supervision, the Detective Bureau flourished and was able to investigate and solve many cases.
In retirement, Capt. Peterson is looking forward to spending more time with his family!
