The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is given as an injection into the muscle. The vaccine is administered as a 2-dose series, 3 weeks apart.  Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive the vaccine.

It is important for parents or guardians to inform the vaccination provider about the child’s medical conditions prior to receiving the vaccine, including if your child:

  • has any allergies
  • has had myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) or pericarditis (inflammation of the lining outside the heart)
  • has a fever
  • has a bleeding disorder or is on a blood thinner
  • is immunocompromised or is on a medicine that affects your child’s immune system
  • has ever fainted in association with an injection
Appointments are currently being offered at Monroe County Health Department (MCHD) to serve this population. Check with your child’s pediatrician for vaccine availability or call MCHD to schedule an appointment.
