Cost of college went up for all students at Monroe County Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.1 percent for 2018-19 at Monroe County Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $6,515 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $135 more than the $6,380 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 10.1 percent more than residents this year, or $7,175. Their price tag grew 2.1 percent from $7,025 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 81 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 222 students received grants or scholarships totaling $907,404 and 60 students took out student loans totaling more than $266,233.

Including all undergraduates (2,920), 1,184 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.1 million, and 553 students took out $2.6 million in federal student loans.
