Pine Needle Baskets

Pine Needle Baskets, beautifully handcrafted from start to finish by Jean Bessert, Monroe County resident.  Jean and her husband collect the pine needles, wash and prepare them for weaving.  Jean incorporates antlers, beads and various other materials in her beautiful basket creations.  Small baskets can take up to 20 hours to create.  During the time when Jean and her husband lived in Wisconsin, Jean learned this artform from a Native American neighbor.  Jean used this training as she began to create her own style of pine needle basket making.

Jean has deep respect for Native Nations, learning the ways and culture from her Wisconsin neighbor/friend.

The River Raisin Trade Depot is proud to offer such beautifully crafted baskets in our gift shop.  Retail prices range from $16 to $75.00.
