Convention of States Action has issued the following press release:

Meet the Candidates Forum coming to your neighborhood...

Are you tired of Washington with its mindless antics, skyrocketing inflation, surging levels of violent crime in many of our largest cities, empty shelves in grocery stores, and schools indoctrinating our children with treacherous and unstable concepts instead of teaching them basic thinking skills?

And all of this with no politicians or bureaucrats taking any responsibility for the situation or promoting any credible recovery plans... There is something you can do about it.

Primary elections in Michigan will take place on Tuesday, August 2, and that’s your chance to help choose a candidate for the critical midterm elections in November.

Who are those candidates? Do you know their positions on issues critical to you?

Convention of States District Captain, John Phillips, is hosting four town hall meetings so you can meet the candidates in District 29. All registered candidates from both parties have been invited to participate, make their positions known, and take questions from the audience. It's open to the public, free, and all candidates will be happy to respond to your questions.

How would these candidates deal with the bloated, overreaching government we see in Washington today? You can ask them what they would do when they realize the government is out of control.

Our Founders were afraid this day would come and designed a powerful tool to help us restrain our runaway federal government. A Convention of States as provided in Article V of the U.S. Constitution is a process used to amend the Constitution and place practical limits on the actions of the federal government and its bloated bureaucracy.

Convention of States is a straightforward process allowing the people, through their state legislatures, to regain control over our bloated federal government. It is the same process that was used to form the federal government with its limited and strictly enumerated powers in the first place.

The process allows two-thirds (34) of the legislatures of the several states to pass a Resolution calling for a convention of all the states to consider proposed constitutional amendments. When two-thirds (34) of the states pass the Resolution, Congress must set a time and place for a convention of all (50) states to suggest amendments to the Constitution within the framework of the Resolution. Any amendments agreed upon at the convention would then need to be ratified by three-fourths (38) of the state legislatures to become an amendment.

The Resolution

The legislature of the State of Michigan hereby applies to Congress, under the provisions of Article V of the Constitution of the United States, for the calling of a convention of the states, limited to proposing amendments to the Constitution of the United States that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and members of Congress.

The Resolution has already passed in 19 states and six more states have passed it in one of their two chambers. Several additional states are expected to take up the Resolution in 2022.

Visit the Convention of States website, sign the petition and get involved.

There is a path forward through this colossal mess – the DC Swamp – leading to a more secure and prosperous future with liberty and justice for all.

Check out a town hall meeting. Ask the candidates to support the Resolution and become part of the solution instead of adding further to the problem.
