Monroe Public Schools recently issued the following announcement.
Eagles are Empowered by Engagement Episode 10
Ms. O’Loughlin’s class experienced STEAM in a little bit of a different way. They were given the task of creating the longest paper chain only using one sheet of paper, and 12 inches of tape. They had to work with their partner/group to strategize how to use the most of what they had.
Their thoughts included:
Which way should we cut the strips of paper, long way or short way?
How thin or thick should we cut our strips of paper?
What if I run out of tape?
What if I cut the ends of my strips of paper into points? That way I will use less tape to connect them.
Oops we ran out of paper, let's go back and cut the strips thinner to try again.
Their thought process, and engineering skills with such limited materials were amazing to watch.
