Stony Point issued the following announcement on April 3.
Welcome Back! That’s what our teachers and administrators will be saying to our 51,000 students on Monday, April 6, when our students officially begin instruction and learning in our new, at-home environment. Students will be using tools such as Google Classrooms and our Round Rock ISD email system to receive and submit assignments and for teachers to provide meaningful feedback to students in a timely manner. Through these tools, teachers will also have the ability to send recorded messages or lessons to students, which will allow them to view and repeat as needed in the timeframe that works best for their individual needs.
In designing our asynchronous learning platform, which is teacher-facilitated instruction that students participate in on their own schedule, we took into consideration accessibility and feasibility for both our educators and our students. This means teachers will be providing and posting assignments and providing feedback after student completion.
We will continue to assess technology needs and provide solutions for those who may not have access to a device or internet connectivity. Already this week, we have provided nearly 7,500 Chromebooks to students and will be scheduling time in the near future to continue distribution for families who were impacted by distribution cancellations caused by the inclement weather. To ensure instructional material remains accessible, printed take-home packets will continue to be available at our curbside breakfast and lunch distribution sites for students.
I know this new at-home learning approach raises many questions about how students will be graded for the remainder of the year. We have developed an FAQ addressing grades, GPA, Rank in Class, and promotion. The information is included at the end of this email and is also available on our District’s COVID-19 website. We will update it as necessary.
We also understand that there are many questions related specifically to our high school students and graduating Class of 2020. These students are top of mind for all of us at Round Rock ISD, and we are committed to helping and supporting them at this time. More information for seniors will be available soon and communicated directly to them and their families.
I will continue to write to you as more information is available to keep you, as members of our Round Rock ISD community, informed. Updates will also be shared with our community through email, text, and phone calls on this developing situation. Please visit our COVID-19 webpage with current information about our District’s response and plans related to COVID-19. We will also provide information on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
