Rep. Jamie Thompson, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, has posted a series of statements on social media expressing her views on parental rights and sexuality education in Michigan.

On October 11, 2025, Thompson wrote, "As policymakers, we must uphold the right of every parent to decide when and how their child learns about human sexuality, consistent with their values, faith, and family culture."

In a subsequent post on October 14, 2025, she commented on the role of SIECUS, an organization that advocates for comprehensive sexuality education. Thompson stated, "Because SIECUS advocates for expansive and inclusive sexuality education, its ideas conflict with existing legal constraints, political opposition, and local norms in Michigan- period."

SIECUS (Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States) is known for promoting comprehensive sexuality education nationwide. In Michigan, debates over sexuality education often center on issues such as parental rights, curriculum content, and alignment with community standards. The state’s laws allow parents to review curriculum materials and opt their children out of certain instruction related to sex education.
