Rep. Jamie Thompson, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, posted several statements on social media on August 21, 2025, criticizing Democratic colleagues over state budget negotiations and legislative pay.

In her first post at 17:27 UTC, Thompson questioned whether House Democrats were avoiding a vote that would tie their salaries to presenting and balancing a state budget. She wrote, "Are Michigan House Dems refusing to vote on having their pay held until a budget is presented and balanced? @wxyzdetroit @MI_Republicans @Local4News @MISenate https://t.co/WXTJYiXWAD".

Later that day at 18:31 UTC, Thompson accused Democrats of strategic voting regarding the proposed measure. She stated, "Turns out the Dems let their vulnerable members vote yes- well figuring out how many they needed to kill the bill and keep their paychecks

I don’t want to hear crap from them whining and blaming Republicans for not having a budget. https://t.co/BwDoyQPaEw".

In a subsequent post at 18:37 UTC, she commented on public frustration with legislative gridlock. Thompson said, "People are tired of political games. If WE can’t get a budget done then taxpayers shouldn’t be paying your salary, including mine. https://t.co/F3dqdZYSIR".

Debates over lawmaker compensation during periods of budget impasse have surfaced in various states as a way to encourage timely fiscal agreements. In Michigan, disputes between parties over the annual budget have sometimes resulted in delayed appropriations and calls for reforms linking legislative pay to performance or progress on key legislation.
