Monroe Public Schools welcomed 4,614 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 4,614 students enrolled in Monroe Public Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.2% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.6% of them were boys, and 49.4% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 72.3% of the Monroe Public Schools total enrollment.

Monroe Public Schools covers eight schools within Monroe County with its main office in Monroe. Among them, Monroe High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,304 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
