During the month of March, Monroe County Community College is hosting three different open house/information sessions for some of the college's most popular programs and high-demand, high-pay careers. These events are free and open to the public. Current MCCC students, prospective students and parents, and adults who are interested in a new or career change will likely find these sessions informative and helpful in making important higher education and career decisions.
On Saturday, March 18, 2023, the Respiratory Therapy Program at MCCC will host three opportunities for students and prospective students, including adults interested in exploring a new career, to learn more about the growing field of respiratory therapy. The information sessions will be offered at 10 - 11:30 a.m., at 1 - 2:30 p.m. and again in the evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m. The information sessions will be held in the Gerald Welch Health Education Building on the college's main campus . Pre-registration is necessary and easy using the 'RT Career Information Sessions' button on www.monroeccc.edu/rt and select the preferred time to attend.
During the RT Program information session, participants will learn about respiratory therapy careers, including job duties, employment outlook and classes needed to enter the program. Respiratory Therapy Program faculty will be available to answer questions. Prospective students can also earn a point toward admission into the program by attending. On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, current and future students will have the opportunity to learn more about MCCC's business management and entrepreneurial focused academic programs and the types of professions that are available. The Business Management and Entrepreneurship Open House will be held at 6 p.m. in Founders Hall on the college's main campus. Pre-registration is recommended by selecting the 'MCCC Business Management & Entrepreneurship Programs Open House' at www.monroeccc.edu/events.
The associate of applied science degree in in business management is designed to provide the student with a general background in business and an awareness of the organizational and environmental changes that continually challenge management. Graduates of this program will potentially be prepared for entry-level employment as an administrative assistant,, customer service supervisor, executive assistant, general business manager, human resources specialist or assistant, office managers, purchasing and logistics agent, relationship banker, retail manager, sales manager or representative.
While MCCC's Business Management Program is a two-year occupational program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment, many four-year colleges and universities will accept much of this curriculum in transfer. MCCC has several "3+1" (three years at MCCC and final year of full-time study at university) transfer agreements with Eastern Michigan University, Northwood University and Siena Heights University along with "2+2" agreements with Davenport University, Ferris State University, Indiana Wesleyan University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, University of Toledo and Western Governors' University. These agreements can result in a significant cost savings for those students who want to continue their education and pursue a bachelor's degree.
MCCC's Entrepreneurship Certificate Program is designed to prepare students who complete the three courses and capstone course and project to open their own business. "The capstone course and final project actually result in a complete business plan for the student," said Leon Letter, Dean of Business Division. "The entrepreneurship certificate can be completed concurrently with pursuing the business management degree. All of the courses are either required or can be taken as an elective as part of the degree curriculum."

On Thursday, March 30, 2023, MCCC's Health Sciences Division will hold two information sessions on its nursing education options at 12:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. in Room H-164 of the Welch Health Education Building on the college's main campus.
Those considering a career in nursing are are encouraged to attend one of these sessions to learn about the nursing education options at MCCC, including application deadlines and requirements, opportunities for concurrent enrollment with university partners and career opportunities. MCCC offers the following academic tracks in nursing: Certified Nurse Aide, Practical Nursing, Registered Nursing and the P.N. to R.N. option, which allows those with a practical nursing certificate to continue their studies toward an associate degree in nursing.
