Agora Chorale and the MCCC College-Community Band | Monroe County Community College fb

Monroe County Community College is hosting another joint performance featuring the MCCC Agora Chorale and the MCCC College-Community Band on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. in the Meyer Theater in the La-Z-Boy Center on the college's main campus, 1555 S. Raisinville Road in Monroe. 

Entitled "A Journey to Joy," the concert is free and open to the public. The evening will begin with the 28-member Agora Chorale performing a variety of selections by Johan Sebastian Bach or inspired by Bach, including:  

  • An Wasserflüssen Babylon by J. S. Bach
  • I’m Gonna Sing When the Spirit Says Sing arranged by James M. Desjardins
  • Ich dank dir schon durch deinen Sohn by J. S. Bach
  • On the Common Ground by Alice Parker, featuring guest soloist - Heather Yanke Lunneberg
  • Es spricht der Unweisen Mund wohl by J. S. Bach
  • Jenga Imani Yako by Israel Kagaruki and Eugene Rogers
  • Ein feste Burg is unser Gott byJ. S. Bach
  • Warum betrübst du dich, mein Herz by J. S. Bach
  • Adoramus Te, Christe by Eric William Barnum
  • O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde grob by J. S. Bach
  • I Would Be True by Undine Smith Moore
The Agora Chorale is directed by Jonathan Lunneberg and will be accompanied by pianist Mercy Olson. 

Following an intermission, the 80-member College-Community Band,, under the direction of Mark Felder, will take the stage performing five selections reminiscent of the era of Underground Railroad, including: 

  • Olympiada by Samuel R. Hazo
  • O Waly, Waly by Jay Bocook
  • Each Moment Should Be Lived Fully by Brooke Pierson    
  • They Shall Run and Be Free by Brant Karrick
  • Fiat Lux (Let There Be Light) by Randall D. Standridge
