Native American Heritage Month

River Raisin National Battlefield Park would like to say, "tižamęh" (thank you), to the Wyandotte Nation and the Wyandot of Anderdon Nation for conducting cultural programs during the first week of Native American Heritage Month.

For three days, over 700 students from Monroe and Wayne counties visited the park to learn about Wyandotte/Wyandot history, culture, lifeways, and language.

Programs included crafts, preliminary language skills, making of traditional foods such as hominy, Powwow dancing, learning about Wyandotte architectural styles such as longhouses, and the viewing of Wyandotte objects and tools.

Tižamęh to the presenters, volunteers, park staff, teachers, and students for making these programs a success!
