Another Public Safety Officer, Ofc. Joshua Sawdy

Monroe Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb 28.

The City of Monroe Police Department would like to introduce to the community another Public Safety Officer, Ofc. Joshua Sawdy.

Ofc. Sawdy is originally from Romulus Michigan.  He graduated from Romulus High School in 2006 and in 2011, Ofc. Sawdy joined the United States Air Force .  He was on active duty from 2011-2015.  During his time in the Air Force, Ofc. Sawdy lived in Missouri and Germany.  Ofc. Sawdy credits his service in the military as to what prepared him for this line of work.  His time in the military taught Ofc. Sawdy how to work with a team and also how to work with people from varying backgrounds.

After leaving active duty, Ofc. Sawdy entered into the Police Academy for the City of Detroit Police Department.  Ofc. Sawdy worked for approximately 1 year for the City of Detroit PD before being hired by the City of Monroe PD in 2017.  Ofc. Sawdy had moved to the Monroe area after leaving active duty form the military and wanted to make a difference in the community in which he lived.

For his heroic actions in November of 2019 when officers were taking gunfire from a suspect, Ofc. Sawdy who was injured during the altercation, was awarded the Purple Heart and Medal of Valor.  For his actions during the incident, Ofc. Sawdy was also awarded Officer of of the year from the Police Officers Association of Michigan 

Ofc. Sawdy is cross trained as Public Safety Officer and recently completed an extensive Field Training Officer program.  Ofc. Sawdy is looking forward to beginning to train new officers with the City of Monroe PD.
