Airport Community Schools issued the following announcement on Feb 22.
Airport High School’s Youth In Government program had an OUTSTANDING showing during the 2022 Early High School Conference in Lansing!
Students joined competitors from 15 schools to put their legislative, judicial and executive branch skills to the test by introducing legislation, competing in mock trials and even running for student leadership positions.
Here are some highlights from the conference….
- Airport’s mock trial team consisting of seniors Ileina Vroman and Kali Wickenheiser, junior Grace Livingston and sophomore Rebecca Vroman was named the Mock Trial Conference Champions! Next step: States!
- Junior Ryan Lewis was awarded the Brent Vassey Outstanding Statesmen of the Year Award - an honor awarded to a delegate who embodies servant leadership, possesses extemporaneous speaking skills and demonstrates the YMCA Core Values.
- Senior Samantha Peless’ bill was signed and passed by the conference’s student governor.
- Airport High School alumna Anna Whitwam was named the Anderson-Miller Outstanding Alumni Award for her continued role in Youth in Government!
